Hello, I’m Ed—the hands (and occasional fingerprint) behind Smalley Glass. I make handcrafted stained glass pieces using proper lead came techniques, the way it’s been done for centuries. That means each piece is built to last, full of colour, character, and the occasional moment of mild existential joy when the light hits just right.

It all started as a hobby—a bit of glass, a bit of lead, and the quiet hope that I wouldn’t amputate my own finger. Now, I spend my days in my Derbyshire workshop, carefully choosing glass, cutting, assembling, and occasionally standing back with a ceremonial cup of tea, thinking, “That actually turned out alright.”

I take inspiration from nature, animals, and those small details in life that make you stop for a second—a fox mid-stride, a bird with opinions, the way stained glass can turn a dull morning into something spectacular. Every piece I make is unique, and every sale fuels the next creation, keeping the workshop lights on and the ideas flowing.

If you fancy a bit of handcrafted glass magic in your home, check out my Etsy shop or get in touch directly (no need to pay those greedy Etsy fees that way!). Got a custom idea? Want to chat about a commission? Drop me a message—always happy to talk glass, design, or the likelihood of winning a fight with a goose (low, but I’d give it a go).

Cheers,

Ed @ Smalley Glass
